ZZK Records Presents Tremor's New Album: Takuy

Rediscover Tremor, the Band of Dreamlike Nomadism

From the pioneering Tremor that burst onto Buenos Aires’ alternative scene nearly two decades ago, two of its three original members remain, along with their countercultural nomadic spirit and tireless exploration of contrasting landscapes. With the arrival of Alex Musatov on violins and synthetic arrangements, the Argentine band is reborn—returning with a new release to refresh the waters of South American electronic music.

With Takuy, their new album, Tremor reaffirms a sonic identity marked by the fusion of supposed opposites—constantly redefining their vision of hybridity with a sound that blends industrial textures, electronic rhythms, creole psychedelia, and Argentine folk exploration. They are dwellers of chaos and masters of crafting sonic hybrids that defy classification.

One of Latin America’s greatest treasures is the diversity that enriches every corner of the continent. Each latitude, each city—every jungle, highland, river, beach, or desert—holds countless elements that can blend to form mystical bridges connecting eras, cultures, and even continents. Latin America is built on a fusion that can be felt in every breath we take, and that fusion is the inspiration behind Takuy, the new album by this alchemical trio of dreamlike nomadism.

This production is perhaps Tremor’s most sensitive and psychedelic work to date, led by Leonardo Martinelli. Their usual sonic textures are intertwined with more delicate material, embracing a melodic focus enhanced by wind instruments, violins, sacha guitarras, and more. Rhythmically, the album dives into South America’s African heritage, echoing Afro-Peruvian beats, Río de la Plata rhythms like candombe, and influences from Colombia, Brazil, and of course, Argentina.

The word Takuy comes from Quechua and has two translations: the first is "to mix or combine," perfectly encapsulating Tremor’s musical essence—uniting traditional rhythms from the continent with the pulses of the present through a blend of analog instruments like the charango and bombo legüero, alongside machines and digital instruments, producing a sound that speaks to both the past and present of the region. The second translation is “to be, to exist, to remain,” reflecting the band’s current identity: with a new sound and lineup, this album invites us to explore a new sonic path as Tremor continues to reinvent itself with each release.

Behind the Album

Takuy was carefully crafted over time by Tremor’s original lineup—Leonardo Martinelli, Gerardo Farez, and Camilo Carabajal. Work began before the pandemic, but lockdown led them to complete the project remotely. Although Farez is no longer part of the band, he contributed keyboards to several tracks. The album also marks the debut of Alex Musatov, who brings fresh sounds, ideas, and digital effects on violin, ushering in a new era for the trio.

The album includes special collaborations that expand Tremor’s sensory universe, featuring artists like Lucy Patané, Ignacia, and Santiago Vázquez.

Beyond Takuy

In addition to creating Takuy, Leo Martinelli has been actively working as a music producer and composer for film. He produced recent albums for Luzmila Carpio and Soema Montenegro, both of which were well received internationally. He also composed film scores for Karnawal (2020) and Los que vuelven (2019). In 2023, Tremor released an EP with Micaela Chauque and has since become the backing band for Luzmila Carpio’s tour in support of her latest album.
