Within the universe created by Bestiaria, the upcoming album by Karen y Los Remedios, each song brings to life a character representing different experiences, emotions, and archetypes. In Curandera, the album’s fourth single, a figure connected to care, protection, and the transmission of knowledge emerges: a woman who accompanies others through their healing process while also teaching them to recognize their own ways of caring for themselves. The song stems from a personal experience of Karen’s: going through illness and everything that process entails. From there comes a reflection on the different ways we can heal and on the importance of listening, accompanying, and trusting. Curandera is inspired by the women in her family and the forms of care she received from them through advice, recipes, and Mexican limpias—traditional cleansing rituals that are part of a family memory passed down from generation to generation.
