A journey through the Afro-Colombian Pacific and beyond
ZZK Records is excited to unveil the first-ever single from Nuevos Ríos, a groundbreaking project redefining the future of Afro-Latin music. Nuevos Ríos is a Colombian/French band headed by Nidia Gongora, Canalón de Timbiquí, and Reco Reco. Think the Colombian Pacific Coast tradition meets the global dance floor.
From the banks of the Timbiquí River to the dancefloors of the world, Nuevos Ríos emerges as a new force in Latin music. Their debut single, “Sumba Ale,” is a luminous celebration of Afro-descendant rhythms and everyday beauty—an invitation to move, to dream, to connect.
Following in the footsteps of Ondatrópica, Sidestepper, and Quantic, Nuevos Ríos offers a successful reinterpretation of Afro-Colombian music through an innovative, global lens. From the very first notes, “Sumba Ale” transports us to the lush Pacific coast of Colombia, where voices, marimba, guasá, and percussion intertwine with electric guitar, bass, and keyboards. The result is an irresistible groove—ancestral yet futuristic, raw yet refined—that captures the pulse of the river and the soul of its people.
Nuevos Ríos is the meeting of two musical worlds: Canalón de Timbiquí, led by the unmistakable voice of Nidia Góngora (Quantic, Ondatrópica, The Bongo Hop), and the Toulouse-based trio Reco Reco, known for their trance-inducing explorations of South American rhythms. Together, they build a bridge between continents—a sonic current that flows from West Africa to the Caribbean, from Colombia to Europe, carrying with it the sounds of resistance, joy, and transformation.
Released via ZZK Records—home to visionary acts like Son Rompe Pera, Nicola Cruz, and La Yegros—this first single marks the beginning of a hypnotic new chapter. “Sumba Ale” is more than a song: it’s a ritual, a call to celebrate life and movement, where tradition merges with modernity in a powerful, collective flow.
