A journey through the Afro-Colombian Pacific and beyond
From the banks of the Timbiquí River to the dancefloors of the world, Nuevos Ríos emerges as a new force in Latin music. With their second single, “Malvada,” Nuevos Ríos delivers an intense and inspired fusion piece, where instrumental richness supports a sharp and deeply collective composition. From the very first seconds, the impact is immediate. Percussion, bass keyboards, marimba, and choirs intertwine in a relentless flow, generating a continuous, almost incantatory energy. Each element is carefully placed within the arrangement, contributing to a precise balance where nothing dominates and everything resonates.
The title draws inspiration from La Malvada, an ambivalent female figure rooted in Latin American stories and legends, both feared and admired. This duality permeates the music, expressed through a constant tension between tradition and experimentation, hypnotic melodies and rougher, more abrasive textures.
With this release, Nuevos Ríos deepens its ongoing approach, treating fusion not as a genre but as a collective space for exploration. “Malvada” unfolds like a sonic ritual, where cultural heritages are reimagined and transformed, driven by an unmistakable sense of creative urgency.
About Nuevos Rios
Nuevos Ríos is the meeting of two musical worlds: Canalón de Timbiquí, led by the unmistakable voice of Nidia Góngora (Quantic, Ondatrópica, The Bongo Hop), and the Toulouse-based trio Reco Reco, known for their trance-inducing explorations of South American rhythms. Together, they build a bridge between continents—a sonic current that flows from West Africa to the Caribbean, from Colombia to Europe, carrying with it the sounds of resistance, joy, and transformation.
