Indus New Single is Out Now!

ZZK Records Presents Indus’ New Single: “El Mangle”

In “El Mangle,” Indus draws on the manglar as an image of the Caribbean and as a starting point to explore ideas of adaptation, resilience, and transformation.

The manglares are coastal ecosystems made up of trees that grow where the sea meets the land. Adapted to live among the tides, their trees develop complex networks of roots that help sustain the coastline and provide shelter and nourishment for numerous species. They are also essential to the balance of Caribbean ecosystems, protecting the coast and sustaining the life that develops around them.

Rather than musically portraying a landscape in literal terms, “El Mangle” explores the tension between these two worlds: the organic and the synthetic, the territory and the machine. Voice, percussion, and the imagery of the mangrove coexist with an electronic structure that moves through repetition, accumulation, and transformation.

The single continues a central thread in Indus’ work: exploring the relationship between the music and cultural references of the Colombian Caribbean and contemporary electronic production, avoiding the treatment of these elements as separate or decorative, and instead seeking to have both dimensions transform one another.
