Indus is a folk - electronic colombian duo, formed by Caribbean coast born Oscar Alford and Andres Mercado aka Doc Keyta. Oscar is in charge of the production and electronic side of the band, through his career he has worked with internationally renowned Colombian artists like Sidestepper, John montoya, Ghetto Kumbe, Nidia Gongora, Nelda Piña, and the gaitero Paito, amongst others. Andres is a percussionist currently also drummer for the band Ghetto Kumbe.
Indus has released 1 album (2020) and 3 singles (2020 - 2021) independently as well as 2 Eps (2020 - 2022) with remixes under the afro- colombian label Palenque Records. The band’s discography explores the reinterpretation of traditional Colombian music through contemporary studio production techniques, using electronics and synthesizers to bring ancient sounds to a club context. Their work includes collaborations with some of the most renowned traditional Colombian musicians such as gaitero El Leon Pardo on the song “Gaitas del Leon” (nominated best colombian videoclip 2020), traditional cattle raising singer Hermes Romero on the song “Noche Oscura” and San Basilio de Palenque’s iconic bands such Las Alegres Ambulancias, Sexteto Tabala and Son Palenque on their remixes Eps.
Indus has consolidated a sound that portrays afro-colombian rhythms in a nocturne and acid ambience, their live show is an energetic discharge of acid synthesizers and afro-percussion, an invitation to dance and travel through the reinterpretations of ancient Colombian sounds. Since the end of covid restrictions the band has been part of some of colombia’s most important musical events such as Festival Colombia al Parque (Bogota) , Festival Centro (Bogota), Festival Jaguar (Palomino), zzk records showcase (Bogota) and Festival Tambor Galactico curated by Bomba Estero’s lead singer Liliana Saumet where they played next to Lido Pimienta.
The band’s music has been awarded several times by the local government and reviewed by international press such as Sounds and Colors (UK), South Plug (CL), Gladys Palmera (ESP), Marvin Magazine (MEX) and Shock Magazine (COL).
