Dat Garcia

A voice emerges, materializing, curing. Analog feelings, ancestral glitch.

Along the sun’s cosmic belt, the renewal of Argentine folktronics takes another twist: the movement - regional, continental and global - has emerged with a strong female presence in the Buenos Aires scene. Enter Dat García, one of the freshest and most captivating female artists out there right now.

Dat Garcia is an Argentinian singer, producer, activist and performer. Her music and activism center on female empowerment and the celebration of non hegemonic beauty. She has performed at festivals such as SXSW, Rock al Parque in Colombia, Amsterdam Dance Event, WOMEX Finland, FIMPRO Guadalajara and many others.

Dat is part of a new generation that weaves together roots and technology to create a unique future folk, where downtempo beats, hip hop and South American rhythms coexist. Her sonic identity blends traditional instruments such as charangos with synthesizers and electronic textures, building an ever expanding universe complemented by a striking visual aesthetic that turns each performance into a sensorial and immersive experience.

Recognized as one of the most influential female producers in the Latin American electronic music scene by major media outlets such as Clarín and La Nación, Dat has become a key voice in the women’s movement that questions traditional values and proposes new forms of bodily and social awareness. Her analytical and curious mindset also led her to broaden her work into the music industry, where she now directs the Management division at ZZK Records.

She defines artists as the historians and witchdoctors of our time, which is why she seeks to make visible the Latin American reality of women and marginalized minorities through vanguardist aesthetic, scenic and musical resources.

In recent years she has taken her music and vision to international stages, expanding her presence through talks and creative learning spaces at major cultural gatherings such as Mundial Montreal and the Caribbean Music Market, in collaboration with the Secretaria of Culture of Barranquilla.
